Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5
Mr.  Hubbsrd said in his opening page that he was going to change everything you know about court reporting.

Well, voice-recognition is in fact a lot better than it was 20 years ago when it was first introduced to the market and it was mocked.

Intel and its competitors have developed ever faster processing power and software writers are ever more ingenious.

Today there are court reporters who are not stenotypists but known as voice-writers, they use this same technology but for deposition and courtroom speeds!  It is this technology that is giving stenotypists pause for concern.   With voice-writers one can be certified as fluently bilingual or multilingual and provide certified realtime transcription in those languages!  Rare indeed will you find a certified bilingual stenotypist.

Just take a look at this short demonstration and then think what Dragon will be able to do in 10 years.
As a matter of fact, with artificial intelligence ever more behaving like the intellect of the individuals who designed and created artificial intelligence (AI) tools like Dragon will be able to discern homophones, words that sound alike and will know from the inflection of one's voice and the context of the partial sentence what must be and or give the speaker the option of choosing what is going to be the text and its punctuation and format style.

It is only a matter of time when no one will be using a keyboard.  That device as great as it has been, as was the case with the IBM Selectric Typewriter for many years will altogether disappear and the word "typist" will fade into distant memory.

Scientists from Carnegie-Mellon University say that by 2022 voice recognition will be fully automated. So there is still time for us court reporters to have our fun and to serve our clients to the best of our skill and ability.

Consider this!  After watching this demo, knowing how faster computers are getting every six months, the incorporation of better artificial intelligence, will fully automated voice recognition be the norm rendering the QWERTY keyboard a relic and obsolete?
The machine shorthand court reporter is so far the very best technology used by highly trained humans that is available in the market.
The $69 question is for how much longer?
